The Block 245 wine is sourced from the Estrella sub-AVA in Paso Robles, California. This particular block comes from the vineyard, Rancho Tierra Rejada, which has the oldest producing vines on the Central Coast, representing over 45 years of growing excellence. The vineyard itself is sustainably famred and certified at the hight level, which presents a terroir-driven wine with no chemicals or additives. Block 245 encompasses a philosophy to provide wine that reflects the personality of where it is sustainably grown and the personality of its winemaker.
The site selection is from the the Estrella River valley, which has quarternary alluvial and limestone soils. The elveation is approximately 1200 feet, rainfall averages around 13 inches per year, and has an average temperature of 89 degrees. The apex of the Estrella sub-AVA has the highest diurnal temperate variance in California at 55 degrees. The fruit was harvested on October 18, 2018, using vertical shoot positioned trellis system (VPS), with a long growing season of 235 days.
A proprietary Bordeaux yeast was used during fermentation that maximizes color and structure. Petite Sirah contributes to this wine by furhter softening tannins while adding overall brightness to the wine. The wine has aged 15 monts in new French oak and hybrid barrels giving a subtle oak character. At bottling, the wine had a PH of 3.75,5.00/gL of residual sugar, and alcohol of 14.5%. This wine can be cellard for 8 to 10 years, or is ready to drink now.
